Something for the Men & the Ladies!

It was absolutely gorgeous today! I know, all I've been doing at the beginning of my posts is comment about the weather lately, but I can't help it! When you get a record high of 20 degrees Celsius, I've just gotta mention it.... (Oh and that's 68 degrees Fahrenheit peeps - I know Staci, that still might be a bit cold for you lol, but it was so warm for me). Mother Nature has been giving us Calgary peeps a break lately, but I'm still apprehensive. So, I haven't put my ice scraper away yet, (cause I know I'm gonna have to pull it out soon lol)

Anyhoo, enough about that!

Tonight, I've got some finds for both my male & female readers!

I got a message from Royal Family Clothing on the Fashion Industry Network the other day, so I checked out their site to see what they were all about. Cliff Wiener and Alex Kenny are the musically talented, masterminds behind Royal Family, mixing their love for music, art, comics, diamonds and crowns into one wicked brand of wearable art.

These edgy "street-wear" T's & Hoodies are designed for both women & men. Now as much as I love to get all "dolled" up, I enjoy chillaxin in jeans, a hoodie and a T-Shirt, just as much. There's a great selection of cool designs and some even look like they're "tattoo inspired!" - here are my faves~

They've gotta contest going on right now, where you can win FREE Royal Family Clothing merchandise! You've gotta be on Twitter to enter this one. Click HERE for the contest details!

The Wonderful World Of Online Shopping!

Happy hump day peeps! I'm not sure about you, but this week has been going really quickly for me and I'm definitely happy about that:) I can't wait for the week-end to arrive, cause I'm going to the "MAKE IT" show this Sunday. (I'll be posting more about this fab event later this week, so stay tuned.......)

Tonight, I wanted to talk about online shopping. As you know, I've been showcasing a lot of fabulous finds from Etsy. It's an online space where people can "make a living, making things". Since I love to support independent creatives; Etsy is a wonderful resource for finding unique hand-made items. This site is all about Buying, Selling, and Living Handmade - Love it!

But, I randomly discovered a "Members Only" site called Enviius . (by the way, it's super easy to become a member. I've actually been a member for a couple of weeks now). The beauty of this site, is that it features online sales of Canadian and International designs and accessories at up to 70% off retail prices. You can find sales featuring independent designers as well!

The only catch is this. Each online sale, showcases only one to two brands, lasting from 48 to 72 hours only. So, you have to act fast cause stock is limited. You know the saying "if you snooze, you lose?" Well that's what can happen, if you see a fierce item and don't act fast.

There are three sales going on right now.

The most recent is from XOXO - 60hrs left to go ($35.00 to $46.00 CAD each)

Cuche - 16hrs left to go (between $40.00 & $50.00 CAD each)

Lynne D - 16hrs. left to go ($350.00 CAD each)

Next up is, Fox Sparrow Vintage Boutique. Their latest online auction begins today! You've seen this lovely shop mentioned on The Creative Mixx before..... (remember that dress that was calling my name? ) Well the dynamic duo behind Fox Sparrow have done it again! They've amazed me with more fab finds! And you know I had to share:)

So to all my vintage lovers, you've got two weeks to get your hands on some amazing pieces.

Here are my personal faves~

FYI - I need this dress! Did I tell you how much I adore pockets on dresses????

Tis The Season For Fingerless Gloves & Leg Warmers

Well, it's really beginning to feel like Autumn here in Calgary. But, I'm feeling a little on edge about it. I'm just expecting that "white stuff" to fall from the sky any minute now....
I know, I know, I should be enjoying the "fall-like" weather that we've been having lately, but things are so unpredictable, (where the weather is concerned), that I can't help expecting another snowfall.....

Anyhoo, when we did get snow a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my hands were pretty chilly at work. A couple of my co-workers started to wear their fingerless gloves and I started thinking...... I seriously need to get me a pair!

I know it's useless for Calgary's winters, (cause seriously? It can get so cold, that you literally expect your fingers to fall off), but it's a cute fashion accessory for indoors.

So I've found some cool fingerless gloves to showcase.

Vintage Finds & Photography - What A Wonderful Combination!

Hey peeps! I meant to have this post up earlier, but I received a lovely call from a dear friend from way back..... we're talking high-school days y'all! It was so great to catch up on things that two hours later, I'm now ready to give you another fabulous interview!

I've gotta thank Etsy again for this amazing find~

I'd like to introduce you to a fierce couple by the names of Erin & Josh. They love rock and roll & vintage and so much more! Think tattoos, pinup girls, diners, doo-wops, drive ins, roller skates, switchblades, cheeseburgers, punk rock, velvet art (do you get the picture?). Well, I was definitely intrigued by them....
So, I just had to have them on The Creative Mixx! ( and aren't they the cutest couple ever?)

What city are you based out of?
we are based out of Cleveland, Ohio.

How did you tow get started? And how long have you been interested in recycling/upcycling items & photography?
As far as photography, we started going out and taking pictures together when we first met, which was almost a year and a half ago. We would make plans to "go on an adventure" on the weekends, which was a way to break the ice getting to know each other as well as spend time with a hobby that we each had prior to meeting each other. Nothing says, 'i like spending time with you!' like strolling through an empty cemetery together:)

I recently opened another store (FRENZY) as a place to purge some of my excess vintage and create some original pieces. I have had a passion for vintage and an addiction to thrift stores/flea markets for as long as I can remember [my house is a testament to this -- i should show you pictures!]. There comes a time when you just need to start weeding things out before it gets too overwhelming. Ha! I've also been trying to learn how to screen print, so there is some of that in there as well. I started screen printing different serial killers on pillowcases. I like to call it the "cuddle with a serial killer!" series. It might seem a little morbid to some, but it's all in fun. Josh and I are also huge fans of rock'n'roll, so we have toyed with the idea of printing stuff with our favorite early rockers whose merchandise is hard to come by. We have Buddy Holly stuff available so far.

Where do you guys get your inspiration from?
We are inspired by the past. We love forgotten treasures and the beauty you can find in unexpected places. We like livin' on the edge, and don't mind that our souls are a little darker than most:) We like to call our photography "underbelly art" because we enjoy taking pictures of the sleazier side of life. You won't find any photos of wildflowers for sale in our shop, but you WILL see crumbling headstones, rusty old hot rods and abandoned buildings from days long past. It might seem like junk to some, but hey...we dig it!

Are the two of you ever uninspired? If so, how do you get over the slump?
We are never uninspired as photographers because we both realize the wealth of possibilities out there just waiting to be discovered. We love stumbling upon something new and sharing it with everyone, as seen through our eyes. we might get discouraged sometimes because a hobby like this doesn't pay the bills, but it doesn't make our passion any less deep.

Name one item that you can't live without?
One item I couldn't live without would be my camera, of course. :) I collect memories, and there's nothing more fantastic than to look at a photo and go back to that special place again.

Any advice for newbies starting out?
My advice to people just starting out is to not get discouraged too easily. Just keep doing what you love doing, because that is the most important part. If other people love what you do also, that's a bonus! But first and foremost, be happy with what you're doing and make sure it comes from the heart.

Now, this busy duo has two Etsy shops. Frenzy Finds (run by Erin) & Swamp Rat Photography (run by Erin & Josh)

Here are my faves from Frenzy Finds - A wicked shop dedicated to recycling/upcycling items and giving them new life. That means Vintage y'all!

Here are my faves from Swamp Rat Photography~

Not only are there two shops to browse through, but there's a blog to check out as well. Click HERE to swing by....... Follow this fab pair on their photography adventures or read up about bands, etsy talk, and random nonsense:)

10 Things About Me, That You May Not Already Know....

Hey peeps......

Remember that fabulous award I won a couple of days ago - The Honest Scrap? (Click Here to get the recap)

Well it's time to tell you 10 things about myself that you don't already know.....

But first, I would like to give this award to 7 wonderful bloggers whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design or who have encouraged me........

So here goes......

Mich from Who is Mich?
Reese from Sweet Insanity and Sarcasm
Michael St. James from Bagpoor
*aMbAr* from Ambar's Thoughts
Elle Aye from cupcakes & mixtapes
Tess Carter from Cozy Little Cave
And...Jen from Jen Loves Kev, (who's having a fab giveaway right now. Head on over to take a look!)

Now it's time to give you my list........

1. I played piano for about 10 years.......I'd like to start playing again~

2. I cannot take a shower or drive without singing. Deep down inside, I feel like I should have been a backup singer (don't really think I've got the skillz to own the stage (see #3)

3. As a child, I felt that I was born a decade too late, cause I was meant to be a Wailer. Yeah that's right I was meant to share the stage with Bob...(at least that's what I thought when I was about 9)

4. I've had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was in grade 6, but I still have my tonsils..

5. I have a thing for horror flicks. In fact, I've been meaning to rent "Children of the Corn" for weeks now. I think I'll do that next week-end....

6. I've had my driver's license for two years now.....never really needed it when I lived in Toronto. But, if you live in Calgary, having a car (and a license) is a MUST!

7. My favourite chocolate bar is snickers....

8. I've never broken a bone,(only sprained an ankle) nor have I ever had a cavity....

9. I have 7 tattoos......

10. I went to an all girls Catholic High School and wore a uniform for five years (I guess I'm dating myself, cause high school is only 4 years now).

Well that's it.....

I'm leaving you with a video that y'all know that I love.

It's Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" - LOVE THE VID!!!!!
