The collection was brilliant, in fact, I fell in love with a few pieces. However, I was actually blown away by er men's pieces - so sleek.

Spring 2012 Promo Photo Shoot with The SWAP Team
About two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of taking part in The SWAP Team's Spring 2012 promo shoot. If you've been a regular reader of The Creative Mixx, you already know that I've been involved with The SWAP Team since 2009. However, my involvement with this season's photo shoot was entirely different. I was there as a blogger. Vanessa Erickson & Stacey Savage, (Calgary Co-Chapter Directors) invited
myself and a few other local fashion bloggers to help style. In addition to promoting Calgary's largest clothing swap, the shoot was meant to promote the local designers/boutiques who donated a piece for the event raffle. A look was styled ahead of time for each designer/boutique donated piece with items from Rewind Consignment and Feisty Consignment.
Then we were all asked to bring pieces from our own closet, (that we planned to swap at the event) to style with the designer/boutique pieces. The intent was to style more looks using the same pieces - so fun!!!
I arrived at the Nexen Building (so lovely by the way) with my clothes to swap & notebook around 10:00am. I asked my friend Georges (@gfperrin) to assist me by taking some behind the scenes shots.

After I soaked in the lovely venue, I took a few shots of the talented Andrea Thygesen and Michelle Wai with Maddpretty doing their hair/makeup thang~
Before I knew it, the models were styled and ready for their first looks! While Mark Derry worked his magical photographic skills; Fela Dales & Elle Nguyen with Calgary Fashion, Ashley with Lions, Lace & Lattes and Glorife Simon of Fashionsign Magazine and I had the lovely task of creating different looks with our swapped pieces.

Rewind Consignment Clothing - Where Old meets New
Last month, I spent a Saturday afternoon at Rewind Consignment Clothing (1002 Macleod Trail SE) to chat with owner Krista Hopfauf. I originally met Krista back in 2010 when she graciously agreed to support an event that I was organizing. This time, we met for an interview for The Creative Mixx:)
Done with the corporate world, Krista decided to follow her passion for fashion and acquired Rewind Consignment Clothing 3 1/2 years ago. As a boutique owner, Krista loves that she gets to wear many hats; from Merchandiser to Bookkeeper, Marketing Professional to Buyer, Customer Service & Sales Rep to Negotiator. Her days are always interesting and unique.
Now, if you're in Calgary and haven't made your way down to the store, then you are missing out on a gem. Here are a few reasons why I dig this space.
First - the store's bi-level interior has character; featuring exposed brick & hardwood floors.
Second - expect to see quality items from Canadian designers at affordable prices (under $100). The fact that you can support local designers without breaking the bank is such a bonus.
Third - it's a Consignment shop! I love consignment for the variety that it can bring to a store. You just never know what you'll get:)

Studio Intent - An Inside Look
Now that 2012 has been in full swing for more than a month now, I plan on introducing a new feature. Over the past year, I've become fascinated with boutiques. There's something about shopping (or browsing) in a tiny boutique rather than the local mega mall that satisfies me. I find the decor more interesting and love to see clothing & jewelry designed by local/independent designers. Look out for the "An Inside Look" feature throughout the year.
To kick things off, I contacted Chantal Barchard, owner of Studio Intent, (in Art Central) to see if she'd be up for an interview. She was gracious enough to agree, so we decided to meet the evening of Sunday January 22nd at her store.
I've been to the location a few times when it used to be Shisomiso, so I was familiar with the space. When I walked in, my eyes darted from one lovely piece to another. I was so pleased with the decor that I quickly grabbed my iPhone to capture some shots.
Opening it's doors in March of 2011, Studio Intent is just shy of a year old. It's a space filled with items that were made with "intent" so that you can dress & live with "intent". Customers who frequent the store intentionally choose to support Canadian designers and there's plenty of a selection in this lovely shop..
In Chantal's case, it was for several reasons. Throughout much of her childhood, Chantal's mother actively sewed. This allowed her to develop an appreciation for clothing construction and recycling. In fact, she has taken up sewing classes approximately 5 yrs ago. Her background in Finance proves that she is business savvy with experience in accounting, management and strategic planning, (to name a few). Essentially, her appreciation for well constructed pieces, love for travel, desire to connect with artists and designers helped in her decision to open.
And, I am super glad that she did! Chantal admits that there are times when you can question choosing a path that isn't "traditional" but at the end of the day it's so invigorating! She truly enjoys the "1 on 1" interaction she gets with independent designers and artists.
Since it's a desire of mine to open up a boutique of my own one day, I think Chantal made a wise choice.
