Portobello West Was A Blast!!!

Hey y'all! I just came back from the Portobello West event here in Calgary and it was worth every penny of my $5.00 admission! I headed down to the Big Four Building with my friend Alyshia this afternoon to see what was in store...... And, although it was my first time attending, I was prepared to be "wowed" by amazing talent. Carlie Smith was absolutely right, (read her interview by clicking HERE), there was an abundance of artists & designers showcasing original pieces. It was great to meet people who were truly passionate about their work......And having a dj spinning wicked tunes in the background was a bonus.

Seriously.....there were some creative folks at this event. I've got a wish list of some of my faves that I hope to purchase within the next few months.

I stopped by Chartreuse Designs and saw amazing hand crafted glass jewelery. A bracelet caught my eye first, then a pendant, but the ultimate must-have is the interchangeable ring. When I saw this ring, I gasped! It is definitely my style, so I will have to add one of these babies to my jewelery collection!!!!

The beauty about this ring is that you can buy additional glass beads to change the look!!! Love it!!!

Meghan Wagg had another fierce looking ring that I had to try on. It looks a little dangerous lol, but it is so comfortable.

Good grief I was fascinated by rings today, cause Blue Box Design had another ring that is so interesting that I need one!

There were some gorgeous necklaces at this booth as well!

I'm going to include one final Portobello West fierce find....(cause I gotta head off to a hockey game in a few minutes) But I will be showcasing some artists in more detail on future posts. So stay tuned for that:)

At BauXo, where "the greatest accessory is a passion for life", I fell in love with earrings, necklaces, bracelets & rings!!!

It's Gonna Be A Short Post Tonight.....

I'm keeping this short and sweet for three reasons:

1. I'm flippin hot tonight. It's been a gorgeous day, but the temperature has been up there, making it feel like we're in August. I really shouldn't complain, so I won't. Just letting you know that I'm hott!!!

2. ANTM (that's America's Next Top Model in short form), is on tonight and I gotta watch that! (By the way my top three pics are Rae, Lulu & Ashley)

3. I need to do some blog reading....

So I've gotta little something to show ya. My friend Alyshia brought some fab bracelets in to work today for me to take a look. My verdict?? They're fierce and I want one or two or three lol.... The most amazing thing about these bracelets is that her Dad made them. How cool is he??? I just have to meet him:)

This is what it looks like on.....

And this is what it looks like off

If you're interested in getting one for yourself.....send me an email - thecreativemixx@gmail.com

FYI Peeps!!! Tomorrow is the last day to enter the GIVEAWAY!!! Good luck y'all! Can't wait to reveal the winner on Friday:)

I Love Getting Mail!!!

I know that this is an old school concept, but the thought of getting mail, stirs a whack load of emotions; anticipation, excitement, happiness, appreciation just to name a few.

Well, I got home from work today to find mail addressed to myself and The Creative Mixx!!

I was trying to rack my brain, trying to think what the contents could be. So, I quickly ripped that envelope open while my heart was beatin a mile a minute. Oh, the excitement y'all!

I pulled out the letter and opened it up. And guess what?????

I just got my official Media Pass to Alberta Fashion Week 09 yo!!!!

It's taking place here in Calgary from October 4th to 10th. Nope, I didn't make it to the NYC Fashion Week, but I got hooked up in Calgary. Stay tuned for 7 days of fashion blogging covering independent designers, runway shows, trunk sales and maybe a party or two.

I've got a couple of weeks to get some outfits together.......can't wait!!!

Now, although I may love to receive mail and I also like to send mail.

So, I've been following Deanne's cool blog Dream Sequins and about a month ago she came up with this fabulous idea - "Postcards from my hometown". In a nutshell, the concept was to send two people postcards from your hometown. We could write as much or as little as you we liked. Well the deadline is today and I had intended to find some really cool postcards. But I'm a procrastinator and I left it to the last minute lol.

I went out on my lunch break today in search of something "fierce", but all I found was "cheesy" boring postcards of Calgary landscapes. Then I thought, why not make them, so I bought some stuff and attempted that, but I just wasn't feelin it. So, I remembered that I had some cool cards that I had bought from Veer ! (a local Calgary business)
These are perfect, so I just mailed them off!! One went to India, the other to England~

I'm out...... But don't forget that the GIVEAWAY ends this Thursday!!

Portobello West Hits Calgary on September 18, 19, & 20th & I've Got The Inside Scoop!!!

Well peeps, I heard about Portobello West from Jeff Faye , (I showcased his creative work a while ago....click here for a recap). After doing a little investigation, I knew that I had to attend, cause It's right up my alley! FYI - Jeff will be there as well:)

I could have written a little blurb about it, but I thought it would be cool to get the info from someone who knows this event inside and out.

So, I contacted Carlie Smith and requested an interview. I knew that she'd be crazy busy and didn't think that she'd have the time......

But guess what???? I've got the interview.

Please meet Carlie Smith, Director of Portobello West Market

For all of my readers who don't already know, what is Portobello West and how did it come to be?
Portobello West is a fashion and art market that was started in Vancouver in August 2006. We began holding semi-annual markets in Calgary in 2008 and are now here every Spring and Fall just in time for the new seasons. Each market has over 60 talented, Canadian designers and artists selling their original, one-of-a-kind work.

How did you get involved in organizing this event?
I created the event after living and working in London, England where I fell in love with going to the weekly markets. I really enjoyed being able to find something completely original. I also found that the pieces I bought had more meaning to me as I had met the person who had made/designed them and heard the stories behind their creations. When I returned to Canada after 2 years living abroad, I felt that we were missing out on this kind of event and decided to start the market.

I'm planning on attending, what can I expect?
As an attendee you can expect to find original pieces from a wide assortment of artists and designers. We have designers that are passionate about the environment and thus use sustainable fabrics like Elroy Apparel to artists like Jeff Faye who uses another persons “trash” to create original “treasures” like art and home décor pieces. You will also find something that is all you, something noone else has and something that you will cherish for years to come.

How can independent artists get involved in future events?
We are always looking to work with up and coming artists and designers. If they would like to participate in the market they can find the full details on how to book at calgary.portobellowest.com

Here's a glimpse to what you can find this upcoming week-end.

Knittles

Note: Designs from Morena will also be showcased at this event. I've posted some photos in a previous post click here for another recap.

Psst.....I've Got Some News For Ya!!!!!

Hey y'all I have some exciting news for ya. You're not gonna wanna miss my post tomorrow! I don't wanna GIVE too much away so I won't. You'll just have to check back with me on Friday for the details.

In the mean time, I've found a few lovely things to speak on, so here goes....

First, straight out of Mount Vernon, Ohio is a woman who discovered her creative side @ the prime of her life (that's mid 30's peeps!)

Sandy Sarsfield of thatSandygirl on etsy, has beautiful hand-crafted jewellery inspired by countrysides, gardens, nature and architecture....sp romantic.

Here are my faves:

Next up...I've got Diana Rajchel, a perfume designer with an etsy shop called
Magickal Realism- a first for The Creative Mixx!
Using natural materials, Diana creates lovely scents and presents them with a vintage feel. It's quite the process to make a perfume: from infusing a series of plants in oils, to creating tinctures (didn't know what that was peeps - did some research and discovered that tinctures are fragrant materials, produced by directly soaking and infusing raw materials in ethanol.) - who knew?

With 182 items to choose from, you can grab yourself a perfume that makes you smell good and is ECO friendly? - now that's what I'm talking about!

Last but not least, I'm gonna post a video that I saw on a blog I follow. My girl Empress Journee of Bangnant Blog keeps me up to date with wicked music.

This video was So Hott!!! I had to share - Thx girl:)
