The "Bag of Scraps" (from American Apparel) that I posted last night has really got my creative juices flowing.....

I was gazing through Lori Sandstedt's Etsy shop (she's the mastermind behind that lovely apron I posted a while back - click here for a reminder) for some "recycled fashion eye candy"

Had to share some of my fave photos of her work~

I knew that combining different types of fabric together to create one item would turn out brilliantly......these photos confirm it:)

Time to switch gears! I'm sooooo excited! Jay-Z is coming to Calgary October 14 and I've got tickets!!!!
His 11th album "The Blueprint 3" dropped in the US yesterday (and will be hitting the UK & International markets within a few days)

I've already heard some of the tracks (cause as you know they were leaked before the release) and I'm lovin it.....

So in celebration I had to post a little Jay-Z

Before I head on out for the night.......

I just got an email letting me know that The Little Burgundy Shop (if you haven't read my post yet - click here peeps), has got a little promo going on

Between now and Sunday, September 20, my readers & I can receive 15% off all online purchases at http://www.littleburgundyshoes.com/

Just use this promotional code before checkout: LBSHOESF09 and you'll be good to go!

Night peeps.....

Nokomis Clothing - 7 years Up and running!!!

I stumbled on a fabulous clothing store called Nokomis Clothing located in Edmonton, Alberta a couple of weeks ago and I've been following their blog ever since.....

Jessica Kennedy oversees the operation of the Nokomis store and clothing line and Elizabeth Hudson designs the Nokomis house collection and manages production of the line in addition to running the Nokomis studio.

Here's why I've fallen madly in love with this store, (will have to visit on my next trip to Edmonton)

- The store is beautifully decorated
- They carry exclusively Canadian-crafted and designed clothing & accessories, where all items are handpicked showcasing the "best of the best" in Canadian talent
- They have their own "house line"
-New stock arrives regularly -
-The Fall '09 Preloved Collection is currently available! (if you haven't heard about Preloved, I'll be posted about the clothing line real soon)

Well folks! This week marks their 7th year anniversary!!! And to celebrate these lovely gals are hosting a party to celebrate!

If you're in Edmonton this Thursday, September 10th, head over to 10318-82 ave. The party starts at 4 and ends around 9 or so. Expect prizes, tasty treats, some drinks, discounts and prizes. It'll be good times peeps

Hey y'all, well the long week-end is just about over...blah! 3-day week-ends should definitely be mandatory.

I spent the day relaxing and once again I was prepared for my post tonight. I'm starting the week off with another interview y'all.

Straight out of Ottawa Ontario, I'd like to introduce you to Cathy Landry. A collector of vintage fabrics & scarves; Cathy creates her own patterns and designs lovely items that are truly one of a kind. Her pieces have an "old skool" vibe with a modern twist - Love it~

How did you get started? And how long have you been designing?
I started sewing 9 years ago after I finished college and got my first real job, as a respiratory therapist. I was only working a few shifts a week and I spent the rest of my time shopping. I could never find any good quality clothing at the mall. One day, in an effort to not spend time in the mall, I decided to try making my own clothes. I bought my first sewing machine and a love affair was born. I took some sewing and pattern drafting classes at a local fashion school and a few years later I quit my day job to pursue sewing and designing full-time. I’ve sewed everything from doggie jackets to wedding dresses. Now I prefer just to create small collections that I offer in my Etsy shop and independent boutiques

Are you ever uninspired? If so, how do you get over the slump?
After a few years of non-stop sewing, I was really in a slump. I decided to take a little break and I didn’t touch my sewing machine for over a year. I needed that time to re-evaluate the type of designs I wanted to make. When I emerged from my slump, I realized I wanted to create designs using more eco friendly products, like vintage scarves and bamboo jersey.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get a lot of my inspiration from street style blogs. It so inspiring to see people’s outfits from all over the world.I also love browsing through vintage stores. The quality of the craftsmanship back then was impeccable.

Name one fashion piece/item that you can't live without?
My Dolce and Gabbana spring coat. My mom got it for me at a thrift store for like $10!! It’s fabulous and the details on it are amazing.

Any advice for newbies starting out?
My advice would be to take classes and learn the fundamentals of sewing and pattern making. It won’t be easy in the beginning but it’s important not to give up.

There are 45 items listed on Cathy's etsy shop Tangente. Be sure to click on the shop name. It'll take you straight to her fabulous etsy store. Here are my absolute faves!

Mosaics & Music.....

I recently became a member of Indiepublic, (a community of independent artists, designers retailers & bloggers) as a means of sourcing out new talent.

Christine Burgess (a talented mosaic artist & blogger) responded to a post of mine, so I'd like to share some of her lovely designs!

You'll see one-of-a-kind creations comprised of broken dishes, glass, ceramics & jewelry surrounding a mirror or frame offering dual functionality.

Here are my faves, but check out her site to see 16 beautiful items, (she does custom work as well).

Cause it's Saturday night (on a long weekend for some of y'all), I just had to post this performance of "The Light" featuring Common, Kanye & Ms. Erykah Badu (my faves), just to get you in the party mode
(Please note - I love me my Erykah Badu, but she's a little off when she starts to sing in this vid - just my opinion folks - once she starts to sing acapella and begins to rhyme - priceless!!)

Strikingly Beautiful....Nuff Said~

Happy Friday y'all! For those lucky enough to have a long week-end ahead...I hope it's a fabulous one:)

So, I didn't post a dang thing last night. I was dead tired....(like so tired that I marched my ass straight to bed around 8:30 in the pm, tired).

It did me some good though, cause I'm refreshed and ready for the long week-end!

I'm gonna give you a little peek into the many talents of Kyle Whitehead. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this previously, but I work with some extremely creative peeps, (it's mindblowing at times).

Kyle Whitehead happens to be one of them and I'd like to give you a little peek into what he's capable of. A full fledged interview should be available in about a month or so. Stay tuned for that peeps!

Tonight I'm going to share some of his amazing photography and give you a glimpse of what he'll be up to over the next month.....

Taken with a Russian TLR camera - feast your eyes on this!

Gorgeous shots in red scale

Some fierce grafitti straight outta the T-Dot (that's Toronto y'all)

All I gotta say is - love it!!!

Now not only does Kyle have skillz in photography but he's a talented filmmaker as well - crazy!

But, right now I'm focusing on Men's vintage! Hope you enjoy:)
